HABITAT: AUTUMN ´09
by Will Taylor
It’s eclectic, it’s colourful; it’s noisy, it’s quiet. It’s when big and small come together. It’s your place, space and time. It’s how Habitat describe their new Autumn/Winter collection. Excited yet?
We couldn’t be more so here at Wales at home: the summer sales are over and we’re moving onto what’s hot this season with Habitat top of our must-have list.
The new collection, entitled ´Ideal Place / Ideal Space´, contains products inspired by the space that surrounds us. Featuring a vivid and intense colour palette which includes: Jay Blue, Rowan Red and Fuschia, this season’s products sit perfectly within the current trend for bright, block colours; Habitat’s creative team using the bold and intense hues of European cities as a guide for their Autumn/Winter range.
Vibrant pieces, such as the Acrylic vase, Booth candlestick and Skittle table are teamed with tranquil and calming neutral products like the Abi serveware to balance the collection.
High in the trend stakes [we´re cosying up in serious style in Autumn ´09 and getting high on bright hues], so what are our favourite products?
WALES AT HOME´S TOP FIVE HABITAT PICKS:
1. Spectrum clock
The minimal design of the Spectrum Clock, designed by Jon Almond for Habitat, is lifted thanks to its vibrant display of coloured spokes. This clock would be the perfect finishing touch for a sleek, modern kitchen, or even as an inspiring piece for a home office. Plus, at only £40 it’s an absolute steal.
2. Ace cushion
This eclectic looking cushion is an ideal way to add an essential splash of colour to a neutral scheme. Made from wool felt and stuffed with feathers, it´s all about the luxe factor. For £40 you can treat yourself to one of two gorgeous designs.
3. Auckland table lamp
If you’re after a bargain update for your bedroom then look no further than this quirky bedside lamp. Available in white and buttercup yellow there’s sure to be a version of the lamp to fit your existing scheme. Your boudoir can receive an instant update, all for just £25 and the flick of a switch – we love it!
4. Shinto bedspread
Given our love of gorgeous textiles it would be wrong not to include the Shinto bedspread. Made from an array of coloured cottons we think this spread would add character and warmth to any bedroom. Snuggle up this winter for £159.
5. Milton console
This simple and stylish console is a real statement piece and adding it to your hallway is bound to impress your guests the moment they step foot inside the door. It may be £430 but it’s an investment that’s practical as well as good looking.
